Sydney, Australia – 22 August 2006 – Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise infrastructure and mobile software company, today announced Orchestrate.IT has formed a partnership with Sybase Australia Pty Limited (Sybase) to deliver its range of fully-managed ‘software as a service’ (SaaS) applications on the industry-leading Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) mobile and embedded database platform.
Orchestrate.IT aims to become a global leader in providing SaaS products and solutions for pharmaceutical, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), government and not-for-profit organisations, among others. The company counts Glaxo Smith Kline, Genepharm and Housewares International as customers, primarily for field sales force and wholesale distribution applications.
Orchestrate.IT selected Sybase as the platform for its SaaS products and solutions due to the reliability and advanced capabilities offered by the Sybase platform, which includes ASA and Mobilink for the synchronisation of sales information between salespeople in the field and the back-end enterprise systems. Until recently, the company used an internally developed embedded Microsoft .NET-based solution.
Sybase ASA is the industry-leading mobile and embedded database management system (DBMS), optimised for use on SMB servers, laptops and handheld devices, and supporting both single user and multi-user implementations.
Rather than the traditional SaaS model, which centralises data processing and manages user access through a continuously connected web browser, Orchestrate.IT solutions are designed to enable field force staff to work completely offline in a web-based interface that provides the same ‘rich client’ functionality as if they were Internet-connected.
All processing, of sales orders for example, is conducted locally in the ASA database on the salesperson’s laptop, and synchronised to the main enterprise system using Mobilink when it is convenient and/or an Internet connection is available. At the same time, field force staff can also synchronise just the information they need for customer site visits each day, reducing the time it takes to locate specific information.
“In the past, very complex sales needed to be processed through a server; however, part of our competitive advantage is that our solutions enable very complicated sales processing to be conducted locally offline. This means faster processing of sales while offering all the benefits of a more traditional hosted service. Partnering with Sybase also enables us to spend less time maintaining specialised technologies and focus our efforts on providing enterprise-class functionality and services to our customer base,” said Daniel Hilson, Founder and Managing Director at Orchestrate.IT.
“Sybase is pleased to work with Orchestrate.IT to better serve the operational demands of enterprises in moving towards ‘software as a service’ solutions. Together, we will deliver functionality that is attuned to real business issues such as the complexities of managing sales and distribution processes and information. The partnership also strengthens the reach of Sybase into key new vertical markets, such as the pharmaceutical sector,” said Steve Dolan, Director Channels and Alliances, Sybase Australia and New Zealand.
