Sybase iAnywhere Named a Mobile Middleware Market Leader

New report from leading industry analyst firm positions Sybase iAnywhere as a worldwide mobile middleware market leader

Sydney, Australia – 23 January 2007 –In a recent report, IDC recognised Sybase iAnywhere as a worldwide leading provider of mobile middleware. The report, Worldwide Mobile Middleware 2006-2010 Forecast and 2005 Vendor Shares (IDC #204829, December 2006), measured iAnywhere's higher revenues and market share-results that placed the company ahead of competitors.

“Sybase is the largest enterprise software company specialising in managing and mobilising information from the data centre to the point of action," said Terry Stepien, president of Sybase iAnywhere. "Our strength in the mobile middleware market ideally positions us to help organisations unwire their enterprises and get the right information to the right people at the right time and place.”

"Savvy companies that offer mobile email along with messaging, security, device management and applications as part of a strategic mobile implementation are in a strong position for continued growth,” said Stephen Drake, IDC program director, Mobile Enterprise programs. “This is particularly the case as enterprises and mobile operators alike are beginning to require more solution-oriented mobile enterprise applications and are looking towards suppliers that deliver more than one element within the key mobility ecosystem."

The worldwide market for mobile middleware software will grow from $645.1 million in 2005 to $1.5 billion in 2010 at a CAGR of 17.7%. IDC defines mobile middleware as a software platform that includes server and/or client software that either extends the reach of existing IP or other mission-critical applications (including groupware, messaging, customer relationship management (CRM), sales force automation (SFA), enterprise resource planning [ERP], host, or other applications) or offers the ability to develop new applications for mobile users leveraging a variety of wireless devices, including laptops, handhelds, interactive pagers, mobile phones, and other converged mobile devices. Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and development tools as sold in a single offering.
