Australian IT services Company Chooses Sybase PowerDesigner for BI Projects

Sydney, Australia — November 25, 2007— Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise infrastructure and mobile software company, today announced that Itree Pty Limited, an Australian professional services provider with its head office located in Wollongong, has selected PowerDesigner® 12.5 to develop business intelligence solutions for compliance and enforcement authorities responsible for road vehicle regulations. Sybase’s powerful data modelling solution augments Itree’s existing toolsets.

The company’s business solutions help monitor enforcement cameras, manage heavy vehicle inspections, and transport operator compliance. By integrating field devices such as cameras, GPS-equipped trucks and back office enterprise database systems, Itree solutions enable authorities to manage cases of non-compliance of legal regulations by heavy vehicles on public roads.

The NSW Roads & Traffic Authority was the first state authority in Australia to commission Itree with the implementation of IT solutions to enforce the national Road Transport Reform (Compliance and Enforcement) Bill and the jurisdictional implementation for the Intelligent Access Program. The success of Itree’s deliveries has resulted in contracts with Land Transport New Zealand and Transport South Australia. As the business grew, the need for a vendor-agnostic data modelling solution that would work across heterogeneous database environments had become mission-critical.

Itree tested and evaluated six different data modelling tools. Sybase PowerDesigner 12.5 was the only developer solution that fulfilled Itree’s strict requirements after extensive testing in real life environments. This was due to the solution’s interoperability, robustness, flexibility and superior self-documenting functionality.

PowerDesigner is an enterprise modelling and database design solution that combines several standard modelling techniques such as UML, Business Process Modelling and market leading data modelling together with leading development environments such as Java, .NET, Workspace and PowerBuilder.

Frank Marzano, Managing Director, Itree says: “Sybase PowerDesigner was the best solution for our software designers and engineers who work with multi-vendor databases, for example Oracle, Open Source and MS SQL Server.”

“An immediate benefit was the implementation of database design self-documentation. It now takes two weeks less per person per project than it used to with Oracle Designer,” Marzano adds. “The resulting cost savings have already outweighed our investment.”
